The only people who don't know that, are those who never do their research about the industry. Gamers who educate themselves about the industry know that. Gamers who have paid attention to the industry over the years know that. You and the other protesters live in a bubble. They honestly believe they are the majority of gamers. The only people who believe that it WILL be an exception, are those who are in denial about their protester group being the minority. That can be said with confidence because a) forum users and gamer social media users are a MINORITY of the larger group of gamers, b) the larger group of gamers care primarily about game play not gaming politics or store fluff, c) the above cycle has never once deviated after several years and dozens of games. NO exceptions.Ģ) People (including myself) point out that they don't represent the larger group of gamers statistically.ģ) Protesters disbelieve and claim the game will bomb.Ĥ) The game doesn't bomb and instead does well.Ħ) The protesters move on to the next game until it launches. From issues like misogyny, historical revisionism, micro-transactions, loot boxes, deviated from the IP, merely copying the IP, etc. Each and every time, without exception, there was a very loud minority stirring up a fuss because of some issue that motivated this smaller group of people. It happened, and I said the same thing in the forums while it was happening for: R6 Siege, Far Cry: Primal, Division (first) Far cry 5, Fallout 4, Shadow of War etc. Practically EVERY big game in existence for the last several years has experienced it. Time and time again, people have engaged in mob mentality leading up to a game's release. Why? Because the people ranting and raving do not necessarily represent the larger group of gamers who are interested in the game but not interested in gaming politics. Just because people rant and rave doesn't mean that the game is going to be a bomb. If you can't (which you won't be able to do because the game isn't even out yet), then that claim is baseless. Please provide data that demonstrates that Borderland 3 is not successful in their sales. If you consider sales of the game without them as successful then your definitional of a successful sale needs to be reexamine. Why? Because the larger group of gamers care more about the gaming experience than they do the "store fluff." No it's not, looking at the borderland 3 outrage a big chunk of the player base is boycotting Epic. Steam is king there, and is one of the biggest if not the single biggest we are all here right now.Īlso, the "outrage" was also present with other games that have moved from Steam to EGS, and those games are doing very well. Those who use these features, or use them to the extent that we do here, are not representative of the larger group of general gamers. However, we represent a smaller subgroup of gamers. Steam is king there, and is one of the biggest if not the single biggest we are all here right now. First, there is NO doubt that Steam > EGS when it comes to social features. Besides without social features people would just go get the game illegal as that too has no social features. Looking at the borderlands 3 outrage, you are really underestimating the store's social features.
